Updating Our Living Room Part 2

Finally my living room is looking like an actual living room! Seriously folk I’ve had so many pieces of odd and end type furniture to set all our T.V. hardware on. Well no more! We are fully up to date and modern now, Can’t wait for summer parties to show it off!

There is more I want to do in this living space but for now it will have to wait. Later I will add paint to the walls and a few pictures here and there, until then, I am satisfied!

Here is the before picture…

Yeah, not much of a living room, is it? Now we have…

3-17-14 0091

Boom baby! So much better! I have fun colors that light up the area, the new Closetmaid furniture makes the wall appear longer and getting that bulky hutch out has added a lot more space. I love it!

One of the things that really helped add a bit of color was gluing material to the back of the empty 9×9 cubes. It was a fun trip to the fabric store let me tell you (I love the fabric store)!

Here is how I got the finished look. I got my Mod Podge with paint brush out, my hot glue gun, my cutter (gotta love the zebra print) and my cutting mat along with the material I purchased!

Next I got out the 9×9 white cube pieces that are to be nailed to the back of a select few of the shelves cubes. Preferably the cubes that don’t hold the material baskets.

3-10-14 021

I laid the material out, placed the back piece on the material and cut the exact shape out. It gave me this…

3-15-14 041

Next I Mod Podged the back piece. Be careful not to add to much of the glue! I did in the picture below and it started to come through the material. It’s not a big deal as it dries clear, I just didn’t want that part of the material to appear in a different, glued, kind of texture.

3-15-14 042

Next I placed the cut material over it and smoothed it out. I noticed the sides didn’t stay down so I added some hot glue to the edges. I may have over done it seeing as the edges get nailed down to shelves but I wanted to make sure there would be no issues.

After I smoothed the material over the glued back and hot glued it I turned it over and made sure no material was peaking over the sides. It could show in the next cube over and I don’t want that 😉 So I trimmed the edges and nailed it on!

The work was a little tedious. I had 13 pieces to cover. Seeing the finished product made it wall worth it! Here is a close up…

3-15-14 052

And the finished product again, just because I love it so much 😉

3-17-14 0091

I am missing three material baskets (to the left) but do to their price I’ve been purchasing them little by little with each trip to the store.

Now my remotes are well hidden and I can finally show off my family albums that I work so hard on! Also in the baskets: my small exercise equipment, puzzles and games for our toddler Danny to play with while we try to watch movies (I say try because its impossible to sit through any movie without hitting the pause button a million times when you have children) and some of my husbands Xbox equipment like headphones and such.

All in all I love the storage options along with how colorful, fun and modern it is! Happy girl here 😀 Can’t wait till I can decide on a paint color and pattern. That will have to wait while we get our garage in order so I can begin my garden! Excited to share all that as it unfolds 😉 As I always say… Stay tuned!

Upgrading Our Living Room! Part 1

When I say upgrading, I mean it in a big way…

3-10-14 1921

My husband  upgraded every piece of electronics in our living room. We went from a 55 in. T.V. to this huge 60 in. Samsung Smart T.V. He also purchased the new Xbox One and since that can play Blue-Ray he also bought a few new Blue-Ray DVDs. AND he bought a sound bar to go with it. The sound bar/speaker is actually pretty amazing. It not only sounds great, I can hook my Ipod up to it, via blue tooth, and play all my favorite songs. Its pretty amazing! Now that I think of it the speaker wasn’t part of the deal but what am I gonna do. He knew I’d fall in love with it once he showed me how to play my favorite music through it! He knows I love to play my music loud… little stinker!

Why, you ask did we all the sudden upgrade? Well I got my husband to agree (I took persuasive measures 😉 ) that once his truck was paid off he could go out and buy himself all the ‘stuff’ above and I wouldn’t say a word! It took him only two months to pay off the lump sum and now we are car payment free!

My husband is self employed and our business grows yearly. We now have employees which we never thought possible. He works so hard for everything. He more than deserved all the new things he bought! We are slowly inching our way out of debt and it is such a freeing feeling!

All that aside, now it is my turn to upgrade the furniture in our living room! Everything but the couches that is… We still have two little boys that spill and get sick and wipe their buggery noses on anything and everything. So, we will wait until they are older and… slightly cleaner? to upgrade the couches.

I went on Pinterest and found a few DIY entertainment centers that I liked. I loved the pictures with the Closetmaid Cubeicals.

3-10-14 1931

I also love the colorful material baskets that go in the cubes.

3-10-14 190

I want to use these cubeicals across the whole bottom wall creating lots of shelving and a very modern look and feel. It will give me the ability to show off our family albums and display anything else fun and creative adding to the spunky colors.

In the material baskets I will put my exercise equipment (weights and stretch bands), remotes (that we are always misplacing) and extra cords to the T.V. (that we use occasionally). I am sure we will find more things to hid in the many colorful baskets, but that’s all I can think of at the moment.

Our home is very modern and I think this will add to our style in a perfect way! It gives plenty of storage space but its sleek and out of the way. My husband also wants a small coffee table and there are endless DIY possibilities for those on Pinterest. So I’d like find a plan and help him build one. That is my other winter task for the month of March. After this month is over Id really like to start working on and organizing our garage so when garden season comes… I’m ready!!!

Back to my living room. I have a couple pictures to show you. I have a ‘Before’ and a ‘Still in progress.’

3-10-14 0061 3-10-14 0171

It looks so much better but I am not done yet! I have a few more color assorted material baskets to purchase and I have some cubes that are missing backs.

3-10-14 021

These little squares get nailed to back of only a few 9 inch cubes. Before I do that I am going to take a trip to the fabric store and by a wild print that I will either glue, or modge podge (not sure how to do it yet) it on the square before attaching it. I’m going to have lots of fun with this new idea and I can hardly wait! These little squares with the material will only be put in the cubes that will not contain the baskets so the fun/spunkiness will shine through! I cant wait to get it done and be able to show you, my readers! Hopefully I will have it finished by the end of the week… Be sure to check back in 😉

Painting The Bathroom Part 2

I finally got the boys bathroom painted! It took me two days to tape it, read here. I could not have done it without the help of my wonderful husband! He watched the kids for me and kept them out of my hair. He put them down for naps, fed them lunch and kept them happy! I seriously couldn’t have got it done without him! Love you honey!!!

It also took me two days to paint so it ended up being a four day project! FYI stripes are hard and time consuming but oh, oh so much fun! I never painted stripes down my wall before so it was quite a learning experience.

As I said in my previous post with the link listed above, I taped and prepped and in this post I begin the painting process!

2-16-14 0011

My first stripe was the darker green. Next I painted the light green. After those colors dried for about 30 minutes I pealed off the tape so the paint and the tape didn’t stick together and rip when I removed it. That gave me this…

2-16-14 012

All I had left was the blue strip which went in the widest area between the two greens! Which looks like this when finished…

2-16-14 054

The blue stripe was by far the hardest to paint as I had to do it free handed! I couldn’t tape over my other colors because I noticed the tape had torn some of the original tan color off my walls. I didn’t want all my hard work to go to wast so yes, I free handed it. It really wasn’t hard it was just time consuming. Again a huge thanks to my husband! I couldn’t have done it without his help in watching the children.

I then proceeded to paint the light green on the rest of my walls and the now finished product looks like this…

           2-16-14 045                     2-16-14 047    2-16-14 046   2-16-14 049

As you can see we chose a monkey theme for the boys bathroom. The colors went great together and if I ever want to change the decor I have a few colors I can match it too!

All in all it was very fun and the bathroom turned out better than expected! I love the stripes and might add a few more to some other walls in our new home. Different colors of course 😉

Prepping The Bathroom Part 1

Gone are the days when I can get a project done in one day. I have been attempting to get my bathroom painted for a couple weeks now. I have the paint purchased and everything. What I am missing is the time to get it done.

When nap time came around today I was super excited! I made myself a THM smoothie and started to prep the boys bathroom. It took a while to get started as I am doing stripes down the wall. I had to get my pattern figured out and transferred on to a piece of wood and then transferred on to my wall. Let me break it down for you.

I am painting with three colors but I am also leaving a strip of the wall without paint. So I have four colors to work with and coordinate.

2-13-14 031

I want to separate the two greens with the blue and the color of my wall is tan. I cut strips of paper representing each of the four colors and lined them up to help me decided on a pattern. After I chose my pattern I chose how thick and thin I wanted to colors and THEN I transferred it to a piece of wood. I used that piece of wood with my pattern on it to help me transfer it to my wall.

2-13-14 0321

Phew! That was what most of my time was spent on! Next I held up the wood with my pattern on it to the wall and began marking and taping it off. Now, since I am doing stripes that means I will have to do two sets of taping. I will tape off my first two colors and after I paint those and they dry, I can paint my second colors.

If I knew this was going to be so much work I probably would have chosen something much simpler. But the paint is purchased and I have all this thought and work into it now so I will finish! It’s just going to take a while 🙁

I can explain more as I go. Unfortunatly I only got an hour to work on my project and after I sorted out all the pattern stuff and began the transfer who should wake up but my three month old son.

2-13-14 019

Yes he is adorable but I was expecting a two to three hour nap! Oh well… He wasn’t the only one not cooperating. My three year old son Danny…

2-13-14 015

Wanted to go out and play in the snow and sunshine! Yes hes cute too but I so wanted at least half of this project done BEFORE they woke up. There is always tomorrow.

So far this is what I have tapped off.

2-13-14 027

That is maybe a fourth of what I still need to get done. Thank goodness I’m not painting strips on all of my walls! If you look closely you can see little pieces of paper taped to the wall and blue tape. That is for me to remember what color goes where. Again, it sounds really confusing but hopefully as I begin painting it will all make sence. I’m not the best at explaining things so bare with me! 😉

It is a huge project but when its done it will look so great! I’m painting my boys bathroom and in spite of the constant delays, I am glad to have something to do during these winter months!

Stay tuned people! Its just starting to get interesting!

September in Review.

This month has been b-u-s-y! My check list is almost complete and the feeling is wonderful! One huge item checked of the list was finishing our fence!

9-30-13 001

Now Danny is locked safely in the backyard and I can begin to plan out how I want to landscape it next summer! So many wonderful ideas that will take a few summers to accomplish, but I’m okay with that. Next year I really want to set up my garden and maybe a fire pit. There are so many wonderful ideas I have listed on Pinterest. Check out my Garden and Backyard ideas. I need to sift through them but the possibilities are endless!

Before it gets any colder we need to blow out our sprinkler system and mow the yard at least one more time. I also need to clean out and put away my flower pots. After that our house is set for the cold winter months ahead.

I did a few fall decorations inside this weekend! Fall is my favorite season, if I haven’t mentioned that before ;), and decorating our brand new house was so much fun!

9-30-13 029

This little table is what welcomes you into our home. I have a basket full of winter mittens and hats and one of my favorite pictures of Danny a few seasons ago.

9-30-13 026

I have this above my kitchen cupboards. I love how simple and yet creative chalk boards can be!

I need make a wreath and get a few twigs for the big vase I have set up outside our front door. I would show it to you but its incomplete. I have just a few final touches I need to add first.

Next on my list was cleaning a few final things for baby! I kept all of big brother Danny’s toys so I had to go through them and clean the ones I wanted to keep. Baby toys are ridiculously expensive! Seriously, I have never seen plastic cost so much! I have quite a few toys but I didn’t want to spend all day at the kitchen sink so this is what I did…

9-30-13 014

I put them all in a laundry bag and set them on the top rack of my dish washer. Pretty clever right?! It was yet another idea from Pinterest. They actually filled the bag with legos and put them in their clothes washer, which is what I need to do with Danny’s legos, but it worked great for all the baby toys as well. I made sure there were no stickers on the items I put in the bag otherwise I’m sure they would have been ruined.

9-30-13 020

Now that all the toys are cleaned and ready I need to wash the bottles I have. I plan on breastfeeding but you never know how that will go and I want to be set and ready if we need to go to plan B, which for me, is to pump. My wonderful cousin was given two breast pumps and she said she would give one of them to me! I feel so blessed! The one she is planning on giving me is a Medela! This is rated one of the best breast pumps available today. I had trouble feeding my first son and ended up pumping a little for him so I have all the needed accessories that go with a Medela pump. Is God good or what?! I was going to go buy one but I didn’t want to spend the money on something I may or may not need. But God has blessed me with one anyway. I am constantly in awe of His kindness and love.

9-30-13 023

My husband and I set up the crib this weekend! It was sitting in our garage and now its all cleaned and sitting in big brothers room waiting to be used. I didn’t wash any of the sheets yet because I will be washing them again when I move baby from our room to his. In case you didn’t know the nursery is pirate themed! Action and adventure all the way for our two boys!

The only things left on the check list are cleaning the bottles, washing all the baby blankets and the jackets hanging in the closet. Currently I am working on packing for the hospital, I will be doing a post on that in the near future, and continuing to stock up my freezer with meals for after baby is born. Our garage needs a little more organizing and then I will be able to park my car in it. It will be wonderful to have a nice dry garage to get the children in and out of this winter.

October is looking to be just as busy as September. I would really like to go in with some family to buy an apple bin to make apple sauce for Danny and Eli when he begins to eat. I already got my Freezer Jam done.

I’d also like to get a few family photos taken before Eli is born. I don’t have many of me being pregnant so I think that would be fun. Also Dustin and I need to go on our date night before Eli arrives. He could arrive anytime after the middle of October and I have this feeling he is going to be early. I could be wrong but I have to be prepared!

Hoping your harvest season has been wonderful. I sure am enjoying the cool crisp weather. Happy Fall Ya’ll!!!
