I made my own body scrub once and LOVED it! I was amazed at how simple and easy it was so I’ve kept it up for a few years now.
I have tried store bought body scrubs and let me tell you, they are nothing compared to the recipe I am about to share with you.
You can add your own scent, you can change and adjust it a little if you want but oh my goodness, its amazing!
I use it after shaving my legs to get that silky feel. It doesn’t make you feel raw in the least. It makes you feel rejuvenated and soft.
Its great for a gardeners hands. The sugar scrubs off the dirt and dry skin and the oils soften and soothe.
I have developed my own recipe but it all started from myfrugaladventures.com. Her peppermint sugar body scrub inspired me and over the years I have added and adjusted it to my liking.
Peppermint Body Scrub
1 cup organic sugar
1/2 cup coconut oil
2 tsp. vitamin E oil
5-6 drops organic rosehip oil – cold pressed
10-15 drops peppermint essential oil
Mica – if you want color
Melt the coconut oil down leaving a few solid chunks. Add the remaining ingredients, mix and pour into your container. I leave mine right beside the shower. I love it so much I make a double batch like in finished product below.
Some other variations would be adding half cup sugar and half cup ground coffee. You can use any essential oil that you like, I use it primarily for sent.
Make this for gifts, stocking stuffers or party favors! You can get really creative with the jars or dishes you display it in.
Weekend struggle is real, I get it. But we cant use that as an excuse! Planning a head is everything to success of any kind. If this is something you really want, you have to plan for it! I too have fallen victum to weekend fails, it happens. But lets make those weekends few and far between. I have some quick and easy ideas on how I have stayed on track during the weekend craziness and I hope they can help you out!
Get your crock pot out and your BBQ ready!
First, before getting into the menu, let me tell you what keeps me on track the most.
I drink three, sometimes four quarts of water a day. One before noon, one before three or four, one during dinner and the fourth will be an evening sipper.
The quart I drink after lunch is usually my GGMS. This counts toward your daily water goal.
Water will keep you full longer, its also a constant reminder of what you are trying to accomplish. If you start off right its more insensitive for you to finish the day that way.
Drink your water!
The other thing that keeps me on track is leftovers! I will make extras, like I have an extra mouth to feed at dinner, so I have lunch planned (key word here, planned) for the next day! Below I will give you a couple lunch assembly ideas but if you can make sure you have leftovers will secure your success even more!
I love my dessert and if I don’t get it I feel like I am missing out. I want dessert darn it and I don’t want to work that hard to get it. If you can plan ahead and make skinny chocolate, chocolate nut slab, or muffins (all found in the THM book book) than great! But this menu is constructed for what you can make in the here and now. You don’t need to get all your baking and measuring cups out to have a great dessert. Their Cake in the mug recipe is easy and fast! I also have this fetish with peanut butter so another quick easy dessert is what I call…
The desserts listed are my go to.
Peanut Butter Swirl:
One tablespoon on plan peanut butter.
One tablespoon cream cheese.
One teaspoon almond or cashew milk.
Sweetener to taste.
Mix and eat!
My Chocolate Protein Smoothie which you will find here.
When I speak of veggies:
Steamed veggies are always salted and I put about a teaspoon of butter on top.
Canned veggies are always salted and I put a laughing cow cheese wedge in for creaminess!
Let me tell you why:
You’ll notice my menu has mostly S meals. They are easiest and keep you satisfied longer keeping you on track.
Okay, menu ideas!
Breakfast (S): Eggs and bacon, coffee and cream.
Lunch (S): Salad with canned green beans, cheese and hard boiled eggs with dressing.
Snack (FP): Chocolate Protein Smoothie.
Dinner (S): BBQ burgers wrapped in lettuce with a side of steamed veggies, salted and buttered.
Dessert (S): Peanut butter swirl.
Breakfast (S): Cheese Omelet, coffee and cream!
Lunch (S): Diced hamburgers (because you made extra from the night before right?) put in a on plan tortilla ( carb. count 6 grams) sprinkled with cheese, onions and tomatoes topped with sour cream. A side of steamed or can cooked veggies.
Dinner: Crock-pot seasoned whole baked chicken covered in veggies! (whole chicken is so wonderful because the left overs will last a few days. Sprinkle that chicken over salad for lunch the next day!)
Dessert: Cake in the Mug page 379 in original THM book.
Breakfast (S): A veggies scramble sprinkled in cheese with coffee and cream.
Lunch (E): Trim Healthy Mama Pancakes covered in sweetened berries.
Snack (FP): Chocolate Protein Smoothie.
Dinner (S): Crock pot seasoned pork chops with a side salad.
Dessert (S): Peanut butter swirl.
Breakfast (S): Eggs and bacon, coffee and cream.
Lunch (S): Dinner from night before with steamed or canned veggies.
Snack (FP): Big Boy Smoothie.
Dinner (S): BBQ Steak and salad.
Dessert (S): Luscious lemon cake page 289 in new THM cook book.
Salads are always a great idea! You can build whatever kind of salad you want. Throw olives and pepperoni on there. Throw green beans, hard boiled eggs, diced lunch meat and cheese on there! Left over meat of any kind will add flavor and protein to your salad. Don’t underestimate the power of salad but use lots of toppings. I want you full after your done. Pile it high!
Anything that can go on the BBQ is wonderful! The mess is minimized and the amount of time it takes is usually within twenty.
The crock-pot is always your friend. Whole chicken, chicken breasts, pot roast, pork chops… the list goes on! Set it and forget it.
Snacks are important. Make sure you have on plan snack material. Click here for my favorite FP snack ideas.

There ya go! I have given you ideas but the work and choices are up to you. How bad do you want this? How hard are you willing to work?
It is becoming an annual tradition for our families (my parents, sibling and their families) to go on a weekend vacation together. Its a great time filled with laughter, silly stories, fun adventures and good food.
Because there are so many of us, twelve total so far, my parents rent a studio with a nice size kitchen, full fridge, oven and pots and pans to boot. It makes staying on plan with THM easy and it saves us all lots of $$$.
About a week before vacation I started a list of the dry foods I wanted to bring and the foods we would have to pack in the cooler. Keep in mind I have a husband and little boys to keep fed. I could write out everything I packed but since this is a post about staying on THM I will only write what I brought to keep me on plan. I shared most if not all the items I brought with my family as well.
For dry foods I brought:
Stevia for my coffee
For the cooler I brought:
One dozen eggs
Cream for my coffee
One huge salad that lasted for lunch and dinner.
Another loaded salad I purchased from Papa Murphy’s when we got the pizza.
Papa Murphy’s Pizza (of which I scraped the cheese and toppings off of and laid on my salad).
Lasagna (of which I scraped the cheese and toppings off of and laid on my salad).
For Breakfast the two morning we were there we put our eggs together and made a scramble and cooked the bacon all the while enjoying our coffee.
Lunch was leftovers from the night before so again I put some of the toppings over the salad and whala!
Snacks for both days were the peanuts and or apples. I did have a few crossovers but what is vacation without them?
My dad made the THM pancakes on the first morning and put the remainder of the cooked ones in the fridge. I would rip off a piece anytime I wanted for a pick me up, a snack or just because. Its one of my favorites! My kids also enjoyed the leftovers.
I didn’t keep track of my E or S meals but I stuck true to the food that are on plan. No sugar, no bread and no remorse.
My dearest mother brought all the ingredients to make a GGMS and I took complete advantage of that! I had my water bottle and made sure I was consuming what I normally do while at home. It kept me full and on track.
I even got a workout in with my sis! She is on a running schedule for a marathon she is preparing for and she needed to run a few miles on the treadmill. I gladly said I’d hit the gym with her.
I am one of those people who NEED something in their tummy to workout. I had a handful of almonds and my sister shared her questbar with me. I have never had a Questbar before and my gosh! It was delicious! There are a few that are actually on plan so that is something I will be adding to my grocery list next time.
We put in a good workout and headed back to the room to make breakfast with the family.
Later that morning we wanted to take the kids up the gondola to the snow tubing park at the top.
Danny had a blast!
Eli got cold and I had to take him inside the lodge. Look hat his little red nose!
I think it the ride in the tube scared him a bit, heck it scared me! We went so fast down that hill I thought I was going to lose my baby! The snow blasted our faces so we couldn’t see where we were going and my eyes were watering from the cold! Maybe next year when he is bigger it will be more fun. Ill have to get us and the boys snow goggles next time too! Sheesh!
All in all it was a wonderful trip and the two littlest boys, the cousins, were the mischievous ones. If it was quite, they were both missing and were always found together.
It was pretty cute actually.
I don’t center the vacation around THM. That is not what this post is about. Its about how easy it was to stay on plan and enjoy vacation! One day of eating like crap and I feel like crap. I didn’t want that. I fully enjoyed every aspect of the vacation and loved how easy and simple it was to stay on plan and enjoy my crossovers guilt free.
THM is so doable! Its so easy once you learn the basics and so gosh darn worth it! It really is food freedom and I just love the joy it brings to me and my family!
I had a relationship with my scale. I would actually talk to it. “Please be good to me this morning… Why cant you just give me the number I want to see?…. WHY?!?! I was good yesterday?!” Sound familiar???
I dreaded weighing myself every morning but I did it and my attitude reflected any number sequence I saw. I didn’t want my husband to see me weigh so I would wait till after he left in the morning (even though I knew he would think me silly) and in waiting till he left I couldn’t have that beautiful sip of coffee because I wanted to see if I lost. I wanted the most accurate weigh in possible!
Mornings were stressful to say the least. With my kids running around trying to pry open the door to the bathroom as I stood stark naked on the scale… I am so glad those days are behind me.
It was an addiction. I hated it but I needed to know. Why did I need to know? So I could gauge how hard I needed to work on it that day. I would figure out what I could and couldn’t eat and how strenuous a workout I needed to put in . My mind was clouded with all this stuff!
Well ladies, that hasn’t been me for about a year now and it is AMAZ-ZA-ZING!!!
Stick with me here. I know it is hard to imagine NOT weighing yourself in the morning but hear me out, please. I will make this worth your time!
When I get up in the mornings now, I don’t give my scale a second thought. My first thought is COFFEE! Coffee, coffee, coffee! Such a better, more promising train of thought 😉
My morning attitude is not depicted by a stupid number that, in all seriousness, means nothing about who you are and what you are going to do that day.
Lets be real for a second. God does not care about that number, obviously He wants us to be healthy but not consumed with it to the point that it ruins our day. He cares about your heart and your soul and who you are trying to be. Which in life, is most important. These are the things that truly matter.
How did I manage to put the scale away you might ask? Well, something changed that helped me put all that aside, my eating habits.
As I started this amazing eating plan I watched that scale like a hawk and what I found was a bit astounding.
That scale went up and down, more down than up obviously, but when my weigh fluctuated my body never reflected it.
I would step off the scale, head to the mirror and be shocked that it said I gained 2 pounds because it would look like I either stayed the same or lost.
The scale isn’t our only dread… its the mirror as well right? After the scale you go to the mirror. Yeah, come on, we are being honest here remember? We want to see where that extra pound came from or went too. The funny thing is the mirror is probably a more accurate gauge than your scale when it comes to THM. Why? Because it helps build and rebuild your muscles! Stronger leaner muscle means thinner, leaner you.
Back to my story…
Those fluctuating pounds didn’t effect my body while I was completely on plan like it did when I was counting calories and killing my body with workouts. No the scale would move but my body was constantly looking better!
I began to trust it after a while, it was a long while, but I began to realize that this eating plan was unlike any other I tired. The results were different as well as the journey to get there.
I was feeling amazing! I was ready to stop watching the scale and start listening to my body because it was working! I have never had the body I have today. Not even in high school BEFORE I had two kids. Yes, I have children, a busy, CRAZY life and I still make this work, easily to be honest. Once you learn the plan, study it for a couple months, it becomes second nature. It really does.
My body is not perfect and I still struggle with a few aspects of what I wish things looked like but I am learning to let go, to appreciate what I have, and all the amazing aspects of my body that make me, me!
After putting the scale away I realized just how silly all that morning effort was. If I didn’t have THM I would still be that person. I had to change something in order to see that. I had to change my diet that changed my mindset that opened up time for better, funner, calmer mornings. I grasped the day, but again, I had to change in order to do that.
Trusting the eating plan, making sure I followed THM faithfully, I stopped focusing on my weight and found time for other things that I enjoyed more. My morning bible study, my coffee and breakfast with my hubby every Saturday morning.
The sisters who wrote this amazing book preach food freedom but its freedom from more than just that!
They teach you in a Godly manner how to appreciate these foods and how to use them for health, healing and enjoyment.
If you haven’t tried THM yet I urge you to explore it. The many lives it has changed is staggering. These women, like me, will tell you they found freedom and joy in other aspects of their lives because of the way they feel. They are finding beauty deep within themselves, they are connecting with their husbands more because they feel beautiful. Its a mindset and that changes as you become healthy and are freed from things like the scale.
Food can be poison to your body. I can cloud your mind and rob your energy. You owe it to yourself to be all that you can be and when your health and nutrition are on track you will be amazed at what other things you can accomplish. What other opportunities present themselves.
I am so excited that my day is no longer consumed with counting calories, with wondering what the scale will say tomorrow, with hatting myself for eating a cookie that didn’t taste that good anyway.
Its about finding yourself, clearing your mind and reaching the goals you want in life. When health and nutrition are on track it opens your mind and time to new and exciting things.
Is it hard, yes, at first. Did I shed tears over my journey, yes. It is an emotion thing, yes. But it has been so worth it to me and many, MANY other women. When you finally understand the principles of the plan, when you finally ‘get it’ it all comes together and its like second nature. Its not so so easy, it requires thinking ahead and preparation but I wouldn’t list those things are hard.
I encourage you this day to make a change. Explore, search, research, find out, try something new! Heart to heart I want you succeed. I want you to feel the way I do; freed of burdens pertaining to weight and a life style that isn’t where you want to be.
Cry if you need to but press through the tears and fear and do something that will change you for the better. Its time. Inspire yourself. Get there! Because you CAN!
I love the month of December. I love the Christmas season, the snow (we have none yet), and the heart warming feelings it all brings. But, we all use this cold month as an excuse to eat wrong and quit our workouts. This is a no no. It will make January that much harder to get back into shape!
Don’t do this to yourself.
There is a way to indulge a little, keep a healthy eating plan and enjoy this beautiful month! Here is what I am doing since I feel the need for a break and want to indulge a little too. I am only working out four times a week as opposed to my usual five. I am picking out easier workouts and not hitting it to hard. Anything is better than nothing and I know come January I will still have the muscle memory and strength to get right back into it.
As far as food goes I am a proud Trim Healthy Mama lifer! Don’t know what that is? Click here for my personal explanation. I love this eating plan, I have been on it for close to three year now. It fits so easily into my life! Its a bit of a learning curve at first but once you get it down it is very simple. I can eat sweets yet stay away from sugar and other harmful ingredients without feeling like I am missing out! I have been eating a bit more of these desserts than I really should for happy weight loss or weight maintenance but I don’t feel icky at the end of the day, just a little extra full. I am partaking in the wine a little more than usual but I love the calm nights by the tree, just my husband and me.
There is also the Christmas parties and other holiday get together’s. You need to have fun, there is no reason to feel like your missing out. Just make smart decisions that you won’t regret the next day. I know, easier said than done but when you follow THM it really can be done!
The food is a huge deal! If you don’t feel good, which is what to much sugar can do to you, you wont want to workout, you wont want to put in the extra effort, you will want to save it for January. Stay on track with your eating and all the other stuff will fall into place. That is my advice to you!
I have to give a shout out to my sister. She is a Beachbody coach and hosts challenges every month via FaceBook groups! She is lighthearted, real, encouraging and very serious about her challenges. She will be with you every step of the way, answering any questions you might have, and following up with you and your goals. If you want to join one of these challenges to get back in shape, or to be apart of something new, contact her via FaceBook, she would LOVE to hear from you!
I personally love Beachbody workouts. You can read my fitness journey with them here. In my post I reference using a Beachbody coach other than my sister, that is because she was not yet a coach.
So there you are, lots of fun information to help you stay on track or to get you on track! I don’t make any money mentioning Beachbody or THM. I am sharing with you what I love, how it works for me and how it could benefit you! I am all about helping you feel and be healthy. It has always been a huge part of my life and I want to help and encourage others by sharing my personal stories.
